It depends on how close you are to the object and what 'sins' you can hide with speed. Are you running that as children of one of the parts (like the earlier thread) or something else now? With a child based object you can do a spline wrap but that will bend the objects with the spline (so it depends on how close the camera is and how fast the anim is and how tight the bends of the spline are). I think there are other solutions but the simplest might be to make all the objects separate (for the...

the circle is just convenient because it does have the Ring option but the same is possible with the rectangle - you just make a copy of the rectangle, make the new one a bit smaller (or bigger) to get the ring type effect, then do a Connect Objects (Mesh/Conversion or right-click and use the menu there) to get one spline that has both splines in it (or better yet do a Connect Objects And Delete so you get rid of the original splines and don't have to hide the original ones). - then Loft that and a copy like...

put all the parts of the ball into a Fracture object and use Mograph Effectors to move the pieces around - here's an example using Push Apart and Random to rotate them but it is not the only way - just animated the effectors strength in the Fracture/Effectors tab but the effector's parameters could be animated instead....

judging by the previous threads you are wanting animate the clones (or start the animation) based on the position of something, the more recent thread was correct - one texture feeds all the clones so you can't try and change it or it changes for all (and if my skim of this was correct same applies to xpresso) but your assumption that you can only use the MultiShader (I assume you meant that) on the Cloner object is wrong, you can use it on objects within a cloner....

the discs drifting off can be fixed by checking "Use Uniform Distribution" in the three Spline Operators. The axial spin looks like gimbal lock, yes. The gimbal lock can be fixed by using a rail spline in the sweep - a rail can be turned off in the sweep setting so it does not affect the direction and scale but it still gives a guide to fix the axis. I'm sure that can be done in xpresso but I would use the built in Align To Spline expression which has a Rail Path modifier built in....

Hi, longtime reader, first-time poster. I have a flashlight model with internal objects I'm animating apart then back together. I used the Mograph Fracture with the Step effector to animate the parts out of the flashlight in the Z-axis. The problem I ran into initially was that from the Fractured object, I had 3 batteries that needed to move outward. The only solution I had was to add those batteries into another Fracture within the Fracture and add the effector Push Apart. That seemed to be the only solution I could think of because it is working. Now the problem...

The bend needs to be bigger than the object to be bent (or ideally just bigger) - that's what the Fit To Parent button in the Bend/Object tab is for. Also the Bend needs to be rotated (probably -90° in B) but do that before you change the size to match the object....

Flat is probably better than Frontal, frontal projects from the camera and will change depending on camera angle. To get it to only go on the front of the face, not on the back the head, you will have to use a polygon selection to limit the texture to only the polys you want it on. I assume you are using PLA animation on the spline - seems to work here with those settings, excepting the animation is only visible on render not while scrubbing or playing the timeline....

en/dis-abling Dynamics in the projects settings is not the way to go at all (particularly if you want to do staggered objects later). Remove that and keyframe in the dynamics tag on the card (Cube in this case) and, in this case, either keyframe the Enabled parameter (unchecked/checked) or the Dynamic parameter (Off/On) when you want the cube to start swinging. Dynamics will always require you going back to the beginning of the timeline unless you Cache the dynamics (Dynamics Tag/Cache) - there are options in there to cache all dynamic objects or only 'this one'. Cached dynamics will play...

using a dynamics tag set to Soft Body is why the cloned spheres all can move as a unit as the later spheres are added. Straight rigid body can have a better results for movement but the end result all lays flat rather than having vertical folds as well....

a linear spline in the Thisckness/Distance controller is not good visually at that viewing angle cubic-ish one looks better. The different rates at which the short and long spline parts fade can be fixed by changing the spline's Intermediate Points to Uniform. I did testing on Path.3 as it seems to have most of the structure but makes the test simpler and the file smaller....

ok, had to change a bunch - really I just set a lot of stuff back to normal values and started fresh-ish. The biggest change I remember is with the bristles - I changed them to Moving Mesh from Automatic (which wouldn't follow the bend and was a reason things were moving too soon). Oh and made the small particles be dynamic as well rather than colliders - as colliders they just make it a really rough floor which probably doesn't help. the usual response is to check out Dynamics/The Party's Over in the Help and it's still valid but that is also one messed up file. Why use a tube filleted into a torus instead of using a torus? And something is seriously wrong with the file since the Cloner has a count of 4 but there are only 2 clones with nothing else that should be affecting it I can see. (even a new cloner has the same behaviour, very odd). So I started a fresh scene and put in a torus and cloner and kind of the same setup....

I saw this in a video somewhere (a Siggraph feed maybe) can't find it but it was the formula effector to affect every second clone. Took a while to work it out... in the formula - if(mod(id;2)=1;1;2) take the clone id number does a modulo (basically a division) by 2 then gives the integer remainder, if it = 1 it's an odd number, if not it's even. The 1;2 means multiply the parameter numbers by 1 or 2 respectively depending on the result of the mod(ulo) those could be any value....

a couple ways for sure. Either use a shader effector (linear falloff) with the clones to reveal the clones - the clones 'pop' in or assuming Sketch and Toon you could leave the clones alone and fade in the S&T lines with a number of methods, using a light as a modifier looked easiest to me here....

with the proximal as a layer mask it needs to go in between the two shaders it's masking (really it's only masking the bottom shader out close to the source). The settings in the proximal all make a massive difference - to see what's happening turn off the other two layers (stripes and color) and set the proximal to Normal. Try different Functions Linear and Smooth seem the best here but Square and Cubic could be good (the others don't make any sense in this application). Blend mode in here doesn't make much difference as long as it's not Exclusion....

had another thought, don't know what kind of motion you want but to me the Displacer deformer would give better motion (more controllable anyway). Using a Subdivision Surface (HyperNurb in R12) is the way to go and keeping the underlying mesh as simple as possible is the way to go. I made the main body from a cylinder (no caps) with 1 Height Segment - 20 Rotation segments (if the fins need to be thinner use more segments) and spun the body 9° (360/20/2) so the side polys would be pointing directly sideways (at the engines, simpler later on). I can't think of a way to do it other than put lights inside the metaball sources and use a Backlight shader to color the metaball - that will clone properly (though some twerking would be required to get the look right)...

your vibrate tag is going to vibrate all the clones together because the same object and vibrate tag are being cloned so they will all share exactly the same motion (it would be more obvious if you have more clones to make the helix) - I'm assuming you will want a random jiggling for each clone rather than them all moving together . If so, remove the vibrate tag and use a Random Effector on the Cloner set the Random Mode to Noise or Turbulence. The xpresso isn't going to work that way I think, the best way seems to...

I do not know if this is the "best" way it's just what seemed easiest to control in a quick trial at the time. The Tiles inside the main color layer are pretty easy compared to a image generated in PS... controlling where each tile channel cuts off with the Falloff used as a Layer Mask and just adjusting the falloff gradient a bit for each. Falloff is pointed in Z and that's where there is an Infinite light to give an even light from that direction. The Material tag is currently set to Frontal which gives a pretty good...
